Tableau Desktop
Tableau Desktop app for individuals
A Tableau Desktop license is required. Contact BITS for a license assignment.
TD software is available in \\kr\Tableau_backups sub dirs.
- Be sure to select the version which is compatible with the current production Tableau Server.
- Accept all defaults during installation.
- After installed, if app is slow to open, update the My Repository Location to a local drive (such as C:\Users\raymond\) rather than a network drive.
- For PCs Set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to the directory containing your tnsnames.ora file, such as C:\Oracle\instantclient_19_3\network\admin
- For Macs copy your tnsnames.ora file to /etc
VM Summary
In addition to the VMs running Tableau Server, Broad has two virtual machines with Tableau Desktop installed. These can be used by anyone with a Tableau license to run TD in lieu of installing Tableau Desktop on your own machine. The VMs are accessed via Remote Desktop (note that you'll often receive a warning that the certificate name is incorrect – this is okay).
